Mission
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is a private, nonprofit institution that is uniquely qualified to prepare talented students for successful, professional creative careers. SCAD offers bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, master of architecture, master of arts, master of fine arts and master of urban design degrees, as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates. SCAD is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097; telephone number 404.679.4500) to award bachelor's and master's degrees. The five-year professional M.Arch. degree is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. The MAT degrees offered by SCAD are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. SCAD offers 42 majors and 52 minors, giving students the opportunity to customize their education and develop cross-disciplinary expertise. Regardless of major, students can take a variety of electives or pursue double majors and minors. With students from all 50 states and 94 countries, as well as an international faculty and staff, SCAD is home to a diverse community of talented individuals. The learning experience is enhanced by distinct yet complementary learning environments to suit different lifestyles and interests including locations in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga., Hong Kong (scheduled to open fall 2010) and online through SCAD-eLearning. Students can choose to further enrich their education through a study abroad campus, SCAD-Lacoste, located in the South of France. In addition, students can gain a more vivid perspective on art through off-campus programs to places such as Australia, China, Japan, Los Angeles and New York City. Around the world, SCAD exhibitions, film festivals, design competitions, students and faculty have received awards and recognition and are defining standards.
