There's a lot of buzz surrounding Yelawolf's new album, Love Story, which is a blend of genres. This isn't his best work, but it does a good job of encapsulating his strengths and weaknesses, and features some hefty collaborations with other big names in music, such as Eminem and Malay. It's also a solid showcase of the lyrical prowess of the multi-hyphenate. Ultimately, though, Love Story doesn't have the wow factor that the name suggests.
The album isn't the first time Yela has been in the spotlight, having already released four mix-tapes, an extended play, and one laudable piece of Merch, the aptly named Creek Water. That said, the record is largely the product of a very well-rounded production team, and Yela's talents are hardly limited to rapping. Some of the tracks, such as "Till It's Gone" and "American You," are full-blown soulful masterpieces. In addition to these, Love Story is a solid mix of all the old standbys - sappy love songs, a few nifty instrumental tracks, and a few clever lyrical passages. Nonetheless, the album does a solid job of showcasing the talent of the multi-hyphenate, and offers some of the best songs of his career.
