Mission
The University of San Diego is a Roman Catholic institution located centrally in San Diego. The 180-acre suburban campus, with Spanish Renaissance architectural style, overlooks San Diego's beautiful Mission Bay. Located on the Pacific Rim and just 22 miles from the Mexican border, USD is optimally positioned for international activity. For 60 years, USD has been dedicated to providing a values-based education rooted in the liberal arts. USD is known for its commitment to teaching and takes pride in the personalized approach it brings to the educational process. USD offers over 75 undergraduate majors, pre-professional studies, graduate programs, education credentials, certification, and career development programs. Students have two years to decide on a major, which allows time for exploration and in turn enriches their lives. USD provides opportunities to study in over 30 countries, with programs to accommodate every student, every major, and every budget. With an undergraduate student population of just over 5,000, students receive solid advising and get the courses they need to earn a bachelor's degree in four years. Students come to USD knowing that they will be challenged academically and will leave with a degree and experience that will guide their careers for the rest of their lives. Opportunities for internship and research are readily available. A student's career begins on campus, strengthened by solid academic preparation and practical experience. The region's thriving scientific and entrepreneurial communities have strong relationships with USD. Recently, students have interned with companies such as Qualcomm, San Diego Gas and Electric, and Ernst and Young. Athletic pursuits abound at USD, with 17 NCAA Division I teams, numerous club teams, and an extensive intramural sports program. USD competes in the West Coast Conference in most sports, and in the NCAA Division IAA Pioneer League in football. Students can also participate in club sports, intramural teams, and recreational opportunities at Mission Bay Aquatic Center. USD is a beautiful campus alive with activity. Over 95% of freshmen live on campus, and on-campus housing is available for all four years. Students can participate in over 80 clubs and organizations and gain valuable leadership skills as part of Associated Students, the student government. And with America's Finest City as USD's backyard, there is never a loss for things to do outside of campus. USD is located just minutes from beautiful beaches and a thriving downtown.
