Mission
Nestled on the shores of Lake Erie about one hour southwest of Niagara Falls, SUNY Fredonia is consistently ranked as one of the finest public universities in the North. It is recognized for high academic standards, strong graduation rates and outstanding student services. It offers students a variety of majors in the arts -- including a world-renowned School of Music -- in addition to its College of Education, School of Business, and a variety of natural and social sciences. Graduate, professional and advanced certificate programs are also available. Perhaps SUNY Fredonia's strongest attribute is measured in its relationships forged between students, faculty and the community. With more than 200 cultural programs and 100 athletic events each year, the campus is alive and bursting with activity, playing a strong role in the quality of life across Chautauqua County. Recent additions to its beautiful 250-acre campus include Rosch Recital Hall, a state-of-the-art sound recording technology studio, an outdoor soccer / lacrosse complex, a swimming and diving natatorium, a new University Commons, complete with new residential and dining facilities, a bookstore and mini mart, and the only Starbucks in the entire county. The university also just opened its new Business Technology Incubator -- the first physical extension of its main campus -- designed to assist up to 31 start-up companies succeed and contribute to the economic vitality of the region. A new child care center is slated to open in Spring 2010, and the architectural stage has begun on a new Science and Technology academic complex as the campus continues to grow and evolve.
