What is floating?
Floating involves lying on your back in an 8’ x 5’ room or pod that has 10 inches of water in it, of which close to 1000 lbs. of Epsom salt has been dissolved. The room is completely sound and lightproof. The Epsom salt provides a high buoyancy and the water temperature matches that of the surface of your skin. Combined, these elements give the sensation that there actually is no water and that you are just effortlessly floating. The drastic reduction of gravity and lack of sensory input results in many healthy benefits both physical and mental. Most also experience a post-float euphoria which lasts days.
Although the benefits of floating are many, the following seem to be reported as the most useful to modern living:
+ reduce stress and anxiety
+ reduce bodily inflammation - faster recovery from workouts
+ alleviate pain (injury, arthritis or fibromyalgia)
+ improve sleep
+ alleviate symptoms of depression and PTSD
+ improve concentration and focus
+ enhance creativity
...it is also extremely relaxing and fun.
While it is our belief that almost anyone would benefit from regular floating, the following are a few groups who seem to be leading the charge in floating as a mainstream activity:
+ Athletes including a few you may know such as Tom Brady, The New England Patriots, Steph Curry, The Ohio State Buckeyes, Wayne Rooney, The Seattle Seahawks as well as many Olympians, martial artists and runners.
+ Busy professionals and new parents have discovered that floating is truly the ultimate "me-time" allowing a mental and physical reset the likes of which few knew was possible.
+ Seniors suffering from arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic pain associated with hip/knee replacements have found that floating reduces muscle tension, inflammation and pain.
+ Creatives such as writers, artists, comedians, musicians and chefs float to reach deep into their subconscious for inspiration. Some famous creative floaters include Joe Rogan, Paul Giamatti, Michael Crichton, Susan Sarandon, Jeff Bridges, Kristen Wiig, William Hurt and Peter Gabriel.
+ Veterans suffering from PTSD have found solace in floating as a supplemental therapy to reduce anxiety, hyper-vigilance and insomnia.
