Located in beautiful Riverside Park near 96th Street, you’ll be pleased to find ten beautifully maintained public clay tennis courts. Every tennis enthusiast knows that playing on a red clay court has some specific advantages; as the softest material used to construct tennis courts, players who frequently practice on red clay learn to expertly construct points, which helps them adapt their play to a variety of court types.
The Oscar Hijuelos Red Clay Courts in Riverside Park are managed by Riverside Clay Tennis Association—a dedicated non-profit volunteer organization—in association with the Riverside Park Conservancy. In addition to hosting a variety of low-cost youth tennis programs and tennis lessons for adults, the courts are also available for private reservation for a small fee.
If you aren’t quite ready to sign up for a Riverside Clay Tennis Association membership but still want to take advantage of the beautiful courts, you may purchase an affordable $15 Day Pass online— these courts are proud to be the most affordable in the city. A small selection of the red clay tennis courts are also available for reservation online, but the rest operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
