Mission
Quinnipiac University is committed to providing high quality academic programs in a student-oriented environment, on a campus with a strong sense of community. With three distinct campus settings, Quinnipiac offers a suburban location with easy access to nearby attractions. Located in Hamden, CT, the uniquely attractive Mount Carmel campus of 250 acres is located minutes from New Haven, mid-way between New York City and Boston, and offers 52 undergraduate majors plus internships, study abroad and clinical experiences in Business, Communications, Health Sciences, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Law to the 5,700 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate and part time students. Freshmen and sophomores are housed on the Mount Carmel campus in traditional and suite-style residence halls, many with kitchens. Excellent facilities such as the news technology center, audio production studio, and the fully digital high-definition production studio in the Ed McMahon Center for Mass Communications, and the Financial Technology Center (trading room),and a wireless campus provide state-of-the-art technology. The nearby 250 acre York Hill campus is home to the TD Bank Sport Center with twin 3300 seat areas for ice hockey and basketball, junior and senior suite-style housing, magnificent views, a 2000 car parking garage and a lodge-like student center. The North Haven campus (purchased from Anthem/Blue Cross)just 4 miles away with 104 acres opened its first of four buildings, and is home to the Schools of Health Sciences, Nursing and Education with state-of-the art facilities for upper level and graduate courses in Physical and Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Diagnostic Imaging, Radiologist Assistant and Physician Assistant programs. A Medical School,is slated to open in 2013-14. Unique to Quinnipiac is the Schweitzer Institute which invites speakers to campus, and involves students in alternative spring break service trips to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Barbados. Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) strengthens writing skills in all subjects, and the Quinnipiac seminar series brings a common book freshmen experience, discussing the individual in the local community, and expands to the sophomore and junior seminars exploring the individual in the national and international communities. Quinnipiac offers a great deal to students outside their academic life with nineteen athletic teams (nickname, the "Bobcats") compete in Division I sports (Men's and Women's Ice Hockey is a member of the ECAC, most other teams are in the Northeast Conference).Quinnipiac is adjacent to the 1,700 acre Sleeping Giant State park with trails for hiking and scenic views. Seventy-five percent of the entering class comes from out of state and ninety-five percent of the freshmen live on campus. Although resident freshmen may not bring a car to campus, the University maintains an extensive campus shuttle system which brings students to nearby shopping, restaurants, museums, and the New Haven train station with access to Metro North and Amtrak.
