Mission
Excellence in teaching is the primary focus of the University. Pittsburg State University provides undergraduate and graduate programs and services to the people of Southeast Kansas as well as to others who seek the benefits offered. This is accomplished by the unique combination of academic programs in the four colleges of the University: Arts and Sciences: More than fifty undergraduate and graduate majors and minors in fourteen departments. Business: An AACSB accredited College of Business. Education: Programs develop professionals pursuing careers in psychology, clinical psychology, school psychology, school and community counseling, elementary and secondary teaching, special education, school and district leadership, school media specialist, reading specialist, English as a second language instruction, technology facilitator, and sports recreation. Technology: Recognized as one of the leading technology institutions in the country. Several programs boast 100% job placement - many students are placed well before graduation. The Kansas Technology Center is a 278,700 square foot facility with over 70 technical labs and over 13 computer labs for students. Departments include Automotive Technology, Construction Management and Construction Engineering Technologies, Engineering Technology (Electronics, Manufacturing, Mechanical and Plastics), Graphics and Imaging Technologies, and Technology Workforce Learning.
