Mission
Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is a place of involved scholarship and teaching where all students are grounded in the liberal arts, encouraged to become citizen leaders, and infused with an excitement for learning and critical thinking. A public university of Ohio, Miami effectively combines a wide range of academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. The bachelor???s degree is offered in more than 100 areas of study, the master???s degree in more than 50, and doctoral programs in 10 disciplines. Retention and graduation rates are some of the highest in NCAA Division I schools, as is our students??? successful entry into top graduate programs and professional schools. Additionally, nearly twice as many employers recruit at Miami as at comparable universities and conduct four times as many on-campus interviews. As a result, Miami is regularly cited by national publications as a best value in higher education. With a long-standing commitment to global learning, complete with a European center in Luxembourg and a developing center in Shanghai, Miami consistently ranks among the top colleges in the nation for the number of undergraduate students who study abroad. Miami students and faculty have an intense appreciation for a global view and multicultural approaches to learning. The Oxford campus encompasses more than 2,000 acres and, with its distinctive modified Georgian architecture, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful campuses in America. Enrollment is approximately 15,000 undergraduates and 1,800 graduate students; an additional 5,000 students are enrolled at Miami???s regional facilities in Hamilton, Middletown, and West Chester, Ohio. Founded in 1809, the university is located in the Miami Valley region of Ohio and is proud of the ties maintained with the Miami Tribe, now located in Oklahoma. The university remains committed to the best ideals of public higher education, including access for all of Ohio???s academically qualified students, regardless of income, through the Miami Access Initiative.
