When I first bought the Blendtec, I just wanted a blender to make smoothies, but it turned out to be so much more. I use the blendtec to blend, chop, puree, whip, etc etc, it has to many more uses. It is one of the only items in my kitchen that gets used DAILY 2 or 3 times a day. When they say commerical quality, they mean it. The blade is powerful cold-forged stainless steel. We make capachinnos daily and it is suprisingly good at making dough as well. It makes blended soups in a breeze and is great at crushing ice.
It has preprogrammed blending cycless on it depending on what you are trying to do, including manual speed buttons, but I just end up using the preset buttons for smoothie and the pulse button the most. It has replaced many cutting and chopping applicances that we have and it looks great on the countertop. I am glad that I didn't purchase a more expensive brand. This one does not require any type of a tamper to push the food around inside the jar while its blending. It is also very easy to get every last bit out when you are scooping it out of the jar.
