On January 6th 2014, Ms. Kenzie Mosher, co-owner of Impulse Dance Academy, informed the clients at the Sioux Rapids "dance studio" that a construction project had commenced of which the studio's entrance and exit was moved to the south side of the building of which is in the direct path to a active and used 1000 gallon propane tank. After learning of this project, I observed that the only entrance and exit was no more than 10 feet from an active and filled 1000 gallon propane tank. The propane tank is not marked nor secure by fencing or some form of structure, in accordance to Iowa State Fire Code. Furthermore, I have learned that the tank has an exposed line underneath the dance studio floor and directly above flammable materials that were underneath the dance studio floor as well. I had to call the state Fire Marshal Division for the state of Iowa regarding this issue along with the fact that the construction site was being managed by an unlicensed and unregistered contractor, who is the brother of the mayor. The State Fire Marshal has cited their dance studio with seven separate violations including the issues with the 1000 gallon propane tank and the unsecure flammable materials in the basement of the dance studio that neither the property owner or Ms. Mosher acknowledged to myself or any parent prior to bringing our children to this hazardous commercial site since September 2013. What makes matters worse is that Ms. Mosher, Mr. Mosher and the property owner each knew about this project for almost two years (dating back to March 2012) and waited to inform the clients of Impulse Dance Studio until January 2014 so that no one would rock the boat regarding the hazardous conditions at this project. In a nutshell, since Ms. Mosher clearly decided to not inform me nor anyone else of the hazardous material in the basement or the hazardous risks of a 1000 gallon propane tank, along with the other five violations, I would strongly recommend to anyone that reads this to ask yourself this simple question: If you knew that your child was placed in a building like this, with no fire suppression system or fire extinguishers, would you send your child to their place of business? I have also advised the state DOT, since this project is right along a state highway (Highway 71) as well as OSHA since this project is also endangering employees of at last two different commercial businesses. As of Monday, January 20th, 2014, the windows were also boarded up ensuring that there is not even an emergency exit in and out of the building other than the one and only entry and egress point out of that building. I would strongly advise those that are seeking to enroll their children in a dance studio to look elsewhere other than Impulse Dance Academy because the Moshers' certainly do not care about our kids and their safety no matter what they say. Each of them did not care about the safety and well-being of my daughter and I would strongly advise anyone who reads this to please take notice of their inability to ensure that their dance studio was safe. Without a doubt, Ms. Mosher is not to be trusted with your children.
