Steven and Fran Glassman opened their Home Instead Senior Care office in Northbrook in January of 2002 to serve the needs of the areas senior population. Steven Glassman notes that being an owner of a Home Instead Senior Care franchise is personal to him because of experiences that he has had in his life, in caring for his mother. Steven functioned as a caregiver for his mother for a 20 year period while she suffered from multiple illnesses and dementia. He made a vow to get into a business where he could make a difference in seniors lives, and God willing, he is able to do so. Steven states “I am happy that we can change the lives of seniors on a daily basis. It is what we do, and what we love to do.”
Fran Glassman notes that Home Instead Senior Care is personal to her and recalls memories from her childhood spending time with her grandmother, grandfather, and great aunt at home, on vacations, and getting ready for school. Of her friends and family, she recounts nurturing the relationships with the seniors in her family. Fran states that “seniors have been a passion to me for my whole life.” The fact that she is able to give back to the senior population is truly a dream fulfilled that she can provide the services that Home Instead Senior Care offers. Every day that she walks into the office, Fran states “I have to pinch myself, to remind myself, that this is not a dream, but a reality that I am able to provide a service to seniors that makes their lives more memorable.”
We understand the personal aspect of caregiving and that it originates in the heart when providing care to a senior. The personal connection that is established starts off with a person’s heart, and this is something that Steven looks for in each caregiver that is hired. The caregiver who shows that they have heart, has the ability to make a personal connection to the client and provide them with care and activities that allow a quality of life that is changed as little as possible from what they have been accustomed to receiving. Steven notes, “We only select the best! We care as much about our caregivers as we do about our clients and it is my job to provide an outstanding staff to our clients to ensure their happiness.”
Home Instead Senior Care Northbrook is involved in numerous community initiatives and philanthropies. Each year, the Northbrook office organizes and sponsors the Be A Santa To A Senior program, which generates gifts for area seniors and agencies such as Wheeling Township elderly homebound residents, Westmoreland Nursing Home residents, and other needy seniors during the holiday season. The Northbrook office also works closely with Family Services of Lake County. Family Services provides education and support to families and caregivers who reside in the Lake county area. The values that are expressed by Family Services are in line with the values of Home Instead Senior Care and make for the basis of a wonderful relationship to provide care for over 3000 area seniors and caregivers. Home Instead Senior Care of Northbrook has been fortunate to be able to make donations of $10,000, by being a recipient of HISC Founders Award, to support and continue the mission of Family Services of Lake County by providing their services at no out of pocket cost to any Lake County resident over 60 years old.
