Rail
Work has started on a train station for the airport. It will be served by the MBTA Commuter Rail and possibly Amtrak to provide service to Providence, Rhode Island and Boston, Massachusetts, only on weekdays. The construction was funded in a 2005 federal highway bill. Presently, Amtrak trains ride through Warwick, passing only 1,250 feet from the airport terminal, without making a stop for the city or the airport. Amtrak is resisting creating a station because of costs related to building and electrifying extra train tracks to avoid delays. Groundbreaking for the station was on July 17, 2006. Upon its completion (expected in 2010), TF Green will have the closest intercity air-to-rail link in the country.
Airport Overview
The airport was named in 1931 for former Rhode Island governor and longtime senator Theodore F. Green. Completely rebuilt in 1996, with the renovated main terminal named for former Rhode Island governor Bruce Sundlun. It was the first state-owned airport in the United States. Since the new terminal was opened in 1996, TF Green has become more congested due to increased traffic and post-September 11th security changes. As a result, terminal renovations have recently begun. Massport has been promoting TF Green as an alternative to Boston's Logan International Airport, as delays and wait time are minimal.
Parking
The airport is pleased to offer a variety of parking options. With the airport's 8,325 parking spaces, travelers will find convenience, safety and many options for hourly and long-term parking. All airport lots feature 24-hour security, lighting and shuttle service from Lot E- the Express Lot. Call (401) 737-0694 for more information. TF Green has also added six brand new shuttle buses to the airport parking fleet. These environmentally conscious alternative fuel vehicles are powered by an on airport Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility. Parking Reservations
