The company has an impressive history that the great Thomas Alva Edison was heavily involved and responsible for. The inventor and the company were able to invent and mass-produce their two groundbreaking discoveries, namely the recording phonograph and the world's first-ever fluorescent lamp. But at the time, an investor split the company into two in what was formerly known as a research and development facility (the first in the world) and the Thomas-Houston Company. Both were at the forefront of innovation, but they were competing against each other until they both stepped down and eventually formed the General Electric Company.
