Mission
DSC offers associate degrees and certificate programs that meet the needs of students, the community and the state. The College also offers baccalaureate programs in high demand areas and in core or foundational areas consistent with four-year colleges. DSC enhances its campus climate by promoting cultural and demographic diversity, and by inviting students to participate in its open-door, post-secondary educational programs. DSC is committed to open enrollment and developing student learning capabilities. Students come from every county in Utah and from all sections of the United States, as well as internationally, to experience the Dixie spirit. One of the factors that buoy a student's choice is the college's low tuition costs. In a study done by USNews.com, Dixie State was ranked first in the state of Utah and third in the nation among public higher education institutions in terms of lowest in-state tuition and fees in 2005-06. The college currently resides in one of the fastest growing metropolitan regions in the United States. Approximately one thousand new residents a month call Washington County home. Dixie State College is fast earning a reputation throughout the state and nation for its academic excellence. DSC's nursing program recently achieved the highest pass rate on the RN licensure exam among all university and college programs in Utah for the third consecutive year. Its dental hygiene students consistently score among the top 10 percent on national board exams and collectively received the highest score in the nation on their national boards in 2004. The college's achievements in athletics have made the college nationally renowned in many circles. Given its new academic mission, DSC athletics transitioned from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division II competition in 2006-07. The college is firmly committed to the cultural arts. It provides many cultural opportunities for the community, many of which are now showcased in the college's brand new Eccles Fine Arts Center. The college also sponsors a Celebrity Concert Series, the annual Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show, the Southwest Symphony and Chorale, and the Tanner Amphitheater Summer Concert Series at the mouth of nearby Zion National Park.
