Dickinson State University's value as a public institution of higher education extends well beyond its classrooms and laboratories. DSU contributes to virtually every facet of life in North Dakota. The state's economic vitality, educated workforce, cultural capital and quality of place all benefit from the driving force of the vigorous and entrepreneurial university DSU has become. The university's Global Awareness Initiative has engaged DSU students, faculty and administrators in an informed dialogue about globalization and cultural diversity with educators at universities in eight countries, including China, Russia and Ukraine. Among the many programs and accomplishments that set DSU apart for other colleges and universities are the following: 99% of DSU graduates are employed or continuing their education. 14% of 2009 DSU graduates continued on to graduate school, the highest percentage among all 11 North Dakota University System colleges and universities. The scores of DSU psychology majors on the most recent major field exam placed the DSU psychology department among the top 10% nationally The scores of DSU accounting majors on the 2006-2007 major field exam placed the DSU accounting program among the top 15% nationally 97.4% of DSU Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students passed the national licensure exam on their first attempt. More than 100 DSU students publicly showcase their research projects - in psychology, biology, agriculture, mathematics and dozens of other areas - at the annual Undergraduate Research Conference. The Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program attracts more than 100 scholars from across the US and the world in a specialized learning community that challenges high caliber students to become excited about learning and achieving personal goals and prepares leaders for service in the community, the nation and the world DSU has experienced enrollment growth for 13 consecutive years. Enrollment for fall 2009 was 2,730 students. That number includes 1,697 students from North Dakota and 433 international students from 34 different countries.
