Just went there tonight and test drove a 2015 Subaru Outback at the Mitsubishi dealership. I had found that car online listed at $26,202. I've always used Edmunds True Market Value to educate myself on where to start negotiating. Edmunds True Market Value said $21,101. I know it can be higher or lower and that is just an average. So I started there. I told them I wanted to get close to $23k out the door, so essentially $21,101 + tax tag and title. So here's how that went. They came with the paper that had $26,202, tacked on the dealer fees, tax, tag and title plus $1,600+ negative equity on my trade. So like $30k all told. And I politely asked the sales associate to see what he could do to get me closer to my number. He went to the sales manager, had a pow wow and then the sales manager came out. He said "I'd like to thank you for your offer, but if we are at this number and you are at that number, then we have nothing to talk about". So like, they didn't want my business. They were unwilling to negotiate one penny with me even though I told them I could come up a bit but I wanted them to work with me and see how close they could get. And the sales manager rudely said in the most condescending tone "what, are you willing to come up to $24k, $25k? Its not enough." So literally they didn't budge from the listed price. And then I left. I'm sorry but WHAT THE ACTUAL F#@k?? What car dealership is 100% unwilling to negotiate a little off the listed price? And then on top of it tries to bully the customer & act like the thought of negotiating is a foreign concept in a car purchase? Save yourself the wasted time and go to a different dealer.
