- Mission
- Monmouth University, a place where leaders look forward, is fully invested in the success of its students. The accessibility of faculty, along with many distinct academic programs, gives Monmouth students an advantage when they step into the workforce. Monmouth students are confident, marketable, and well-rounded both in and out of the classroom. The University, which was founded in 1933, is a private, moderate-sized, coeducational, comprehensive institution that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than fifty majors and concentrations. The University has a dedicated, distinguished faculty, and a ratio of 15 students to each professor ensures small classes and active learning. Innovative undergraduate majors and concentrations include marine science, software engineering, and music industry production. Recently added majors include: Spanish/international business, health studies, health and physical education, and theatre arts. The most popular majors are business, education, communication, and psychology. Five-year baccalaureate/master???s degree programs are also available to qualified students in a number of programs. Regardless of major, highly qualified students may be invited to join the Honors School. Additionally, the Monmouth Medical Scholars Program offers New Jersey residents a competitive seamless route to medical school. Experiential education, identified more frequently as an internship or cooperative learning, is a required part of the undergraduate curriculum-another way Monmouth separates itself from many other universities. Monmouth University is located in the New York metropolitan area-home to many prominent firms that are leaders in the technology, media, and financial industries. This proximity allows access to exceptional hands-on learning opportunities. Monmouth students enjoy the best of both worlds. The campus, located in West Long Branch, New Jersey, is minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and only one hour from New York City or Philadelphia. Students enjoy the beautiful, 156-acre campus yet they have easy access to some of the finest cultural events and job opportunities in the world. Monmouth University believes that in addition to providing sound preparation for successful careers, a major goal of higher education is to help students develop lasting values. These values include a keen sense of citizenship, social responsibility, and leadership qualities that equip graduates to contribute to today's increasingly complex and multicultural world. The University also provides a safe and secure environment for all students. With a modern, community-oriented police department staffed by highly experienced and educated professionals, the campus is equipped with up-to-date technology, including emergency telephones throughout campus and a cell phone message service that sends out immediate alerts regarding emergency situations.
